| SPECIAL EDITION RAM PICKUP TO COMPLEMENT VIPER GTS INDY 500 PACE CAR
DETROIT, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ The Dodge Viper GTS Coupe Indy Pace Car
now has a big brother. The Dodge Ram "Indy 500 Special Edition,"
a combination of Viper GTS looks and Dodge Ram muscle, will offer truck
buyers a truly affordable way to own a piece of pure Dodge performance.
Dodge will produce a limited number of the special edition truck for sale
at Dodge dealerships in the spring of 1996. The Dodge Ram Indy 500 Special
Edition was unveiled today at the North American International Auto Show.
The truck begins as a Ram SLT Sport 1500 Regular Cab 4x2 and features the
Brilliant Blue exterior and white "skunk stripe" colors of the
Viper GTS Coupe and optional Indy 500 "Official Truck" graphics.
The 5.9L Magnum V8 engine will have a 15 horsepower boost, making it capable
of 245 horsepower. Unique 17-inch wheels, and sport-tuned exhaust complete
the package. "The Indy 500 represents more than just a coming out party
for the Viper GTS Coupe, it's a showcase for the entire Dodge brand, including
our trucks," said Dodge General Manager Martin R. Levine. "The
exposure from this race gives us the opportunity to add additional excitement
to the truck side of our business. "With the Ram Indy 500 Special Edition,
you get additional exhaust and horsepower enhancements, special wheels,
performance tires and the Viper GTS look, all for only $900 above the price
of a Ram Sport SLT with the 5.9L engine. Staying true to the Dodge philosophy,
we're offering more performance and driving enjoyment at an affordable price."
In addition to the Indy package, Ram owners may choose to gain an additional
performance edge with the Magnum R/T Performance Package, offered by Chrysler's
Mopar Parts Division. This dealer-installed package includes a high-performance
engine controller (SBEC), Magnum V8 Camshaft kit, low-restriction air filter
and performance headers. Though still under development and due to be released
in the spring, the testing on Chrysler's dynamometer shows a gain of 46
horsepower and 51 ft/lbs of torque over the standard 5.9L Magnum engine.
With the Magnum R/T package, the Ram Indy 500 Special Edition will approach
300 horsepower. Dodge will build the 1996 Ram Indy 500 Special Edition at
its Warren Truck/Dodge City Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan. -0- 1/4/96 |
